Many guests plan to visit Walt Disney World around Christmas for many reasons. One big highlight is the beautiful gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian. Find out why this will be missing this year.

When you think of Disney Resorts, does the Grand Floridian come to mind first? It’s one of the nicest and most elegant resorts on the property.

All guests can visit this lobby, even if you are not staying at the Grand Floridian. However, the Grand Floridian has been in a state of refurbishment for the last several years affecting many of its special amenities.

Earlier, Disney announced plans for a lengthy refurbishment. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be receiving enhancements to select areas in phases, including the lobby and convention Center.

One of the most notable changes is the addition of the Grand Floridian Lobby Bar. Inspired by the lobby’s iconic birdcage, the bar will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents. You may even spot colorful birds in the stained glass and murals throughout the atrium!

From the above photo, it appears that this new bar will replace the current large birdcage that is located in the Grand Floridian lobby.

The enhancements do not stop there. Disney Imagineering will update the lobby, adding many great botanical touches and Victorian accents, including new carpets, furnishings, and brass accents.

With all of the new refurbishments taking place at the Grand Floridian Lobby, Disney announced that the large gingerbread house will not be a part of this year’s celebrations. This is disappointing for guests hoping to visit and/or stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian to enjoy the gingerbread house this holiday season.

Disney does try to minimize the inconvenience of refurbishment. All pools and dining will remain open during this refurbishment, with construction starting on Monday, April 14, 2025.
