Traveling is one of those luxuries that millions of people can enjoy. If you have a trip to Walt Disney World planned, you might be considering air travel. This is especially true if you live more than a few hours from the magic.

However, sometimes it is a struggle to get to your ultimate destination. Flights can be delayed or completely canceled for any number of reasons.

Travel plans become a little more complicated when trying to make connecting flights to your final destination and navigating long security lines.

Now, the lines at security will be a little smoother thanks to a change announced by the Department of Homeland Security. Yesterday, June 8, 2025, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared that passengers at domestic airports no longer have to take their shoes off while passing through security screening at TSA checkpoints.

"Ending the 'Shoes-Off' policy is the latest effort DHS is implementing to modernize and enhance the traveler experience across our nation's airports," said Secretary Noem.

"As always, security remains our top priority. Thanks to our cutting-edge technological advancements and multi-layered security approach, we are confident we can implement this change while maintaining the highest security standards."

This is expected to greatly reduce wait times for passengers and families to make it through airport security. That will be a great improvement, especially when navigating the chaotic Orlando International Airport.

On July 2, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration also shared a new program, "Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease." This will allow uniformed service members and their families special benefits such as a discount for TSA PreCheck enrollment and even expedited access lanes at select airports.
