Orlando International Airport, also known as MCO, is a busy airport. It is also a popular choice for those visiting Central Florida, which is where many of our favorite theme parks are located.

MCO is consistently listed in the top 10 busiest airports in the United States due to the number of travelers visiting Central Florida. At over 11,000 acres it is also one of the largest airports as well.

The MCO continues to experience heavy crowds as Spring Break has arrived. This means heavy crowds at Orlando International Airport. Orlando Airport has warned travelers ahead of this busy season so travelers can be best prepared.

Travelers at the Orlando International Airport may have been prepared for long waits, but they were not prepared for a ground stop to be issued. At first, the airport issued a ground stop until 4:15 PM due to heavy thunderstorms which would likely be extended due to current weather.

The Orlando International Airport is currently experiencing arrival delays for airborne aircraft with an average of 1 hour and increasing. Departure delays will experience a delay of 1 hour and 16 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes and increasing due to weather.

According to Flight Aware, the total delays at Orlando International Airport are currently at 544; however, this may increase as the evening continues. Currently, 14 flights have been canceled as well.

Unfortunately, if you are flying out tonight, your flight might be delayed. Orlando International Airport encourages travelers to check directly with your airline for updates.

This is not the first time that Orlando International Airport has dealt with ground stops and ground delays. We are hopeful that travelers may still be on their way when it is safe to resume travel.
