Universal Shares Official Closing Date of Popular Coaster

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a roller coaster in Universal Studios at Universal Orlando. It allows riders to select a song to listen to as they climb, loop, and plummet over Universal! Universal even changed the ride from offering 30 song choices to just 5!

The ride is probably best known for its terrifying vertical ascent. It presents an intimidating visual as riders approach, and it is every bit as thrilling (or terrifying) as one would imagine to travel STRAIGHT UP (yes straight up, a full 90 degrees!) with your back parallel to the ground.

Rip Ride and Rockit climbs a total of 17 stories. But did you know that this coaster broke records? It was the first coaster in the world to have a non-inverting loop!

On December 23, 2024, Universal filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District. This permit came along with a telling project description and detailed maps. Be sure to read HERE for all the details on this permit that Universal filed.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will be removed to make way for a new experience. The closure was expected to happen in early September 2025, but that has now changed!

Universal then confirmed that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit would close. At that time, Universal shared that the closure would happen in early September 2025 “to make way for a new experience.” The timeline for this closure has now changed!

New Closing Date

Universal has now shared the official date that Rip Ride Rockit will close forever. The coaster will now permanently close on August 18, 2025.

This is disappointing news for those with late August trips who were hoping to get in one more ride. At this time it is unclear why Universal has changed the closing date to mid-August versus early September as previously announced. Universal also shared that more details would be released at a later date. We will be sure to keep you up-to-date with any new information.
