When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been in dire need of some updates. Finally, this attraction will receive a complete overhaul. Check out the closing timeline and full list of updates.
Recent Buzz Lightyear Updates

Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin gives you the chance to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. In December 2024, we shared the news that a permit was filed “to install projectors” for this attraction by the Maddox Electric Company.
Thankfully, it appears that work was completed after park hours to bring updated digital projectors to the final tunnel near the end of this attraction.
As exciting as this update was, many Disney fans wanted even more updates.
New Updates for Buzz Lightyear

This attraction will now have a new show seen, that will introduce characters to a new character “Buddy.” This new character created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar animation Studios will help to play a key role on the star command team.
Buddy will help make sure that space rangers are ready for their mission and will encourage them with final system checks of their Star cruisers before they get started.
Along with this, the ride vehicle to receive a huge overhaul. Each enhanced vehicle will be equipped with video monitors that allow for real-time scoring updates with other exciting features. The best part will be handheld blasters these new blasters will be perfect for younger riders allowing them to put it to participate more in the experience.
The once static Z targets throughout the attraction will also be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when they are hit.
Buzz Lightyear Closing

These new updates will take some time to prepare for. Right now, Disney announced that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close in August and will reopen next year.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporally close in August 2025.
Although we never like to hear of one of our favorite attractions closing, these changes are much needed for this attraction.
