Disney World Prepares for a Possible Tornado and a Hurricane

Heads up if you are in the Central Florida area today: there is a Tornado Watch that has just been issued for the surrounding area around Disney World.

Hurricane Helene is edging its way closer to Florida, and on top of possible flooding and strong wind, the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Central Florida.

As of this morning, September 26, Hurricane Helene is about 400 miles southwest of Leesburg, Florida with 90 mph winds.

While Disney World and surrounding areas will be hit with tropical storm conditions, including 60-65 mph winds and 1-3 inches of rain. And, also a tornado...

Right now, theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios are operating at a mostly normal level. Volcano Bay and Typhoon Lagoon are closed today. Plus, Disney cancelled tonight's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and some Animal Kingdom tours.

We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and update you with any operational changes. Hopefully, the worst of the weather is limited to today only.

As a reminder, a Tornado Watch is that conditions are favorable for a tornado to develop. A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been spotted or seen on radar. Orange and Osceola Counties are under a Tornado Watch.
