Universal Orlando gave theme park goers something truly groundbreaking when it introduced The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Now, Universal Orlando is working on Epic Universe, an entirely NEW theme park. It will join Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure when it opens in 2025.

There are also plans to expand Universal Orlando's hotel capacity to 11,000 rooms by 2025. The total will move from 6,000 rooms to 8,000.

In addition, Universal Orlando Resort announced this past summer that a new DreamWorks land is coming to Universal Studios Florida. The land will open where the former KidZone location was sometime this year.

It will include family-friendly experiences featuring Shrek, Trolls, Kung Fu Panda, and more. Guests will get to meet favorite characters like Gabby from Gabby's Dollhouse and explore themed interactive play places based on the above movie franchises.

Cutting Down on Costs

With all of these new projects coming up, it's clear Universal needs to make some adjustments in order to be able to afford it. First, Universal cut out several life street performers lately.

Even more extreme is the fact that Universal is closing large areas of the park and not opening them up until later in the day. This includes any attractions, shopping, and restaurants that are in said areas.

The majority of the park continues to open at 9:00 am, but the area between Hollywood and London is closed off. until 10:00 am. That is a very large portion of the park that is not accessible. It should go back to normal once the crowds return for Mardi Gras.

Will this affect your touring plans for Universal? Could you imagine if Disney World did this? Let us know in the comments below, and share this post with a friend who is visiting Universal this winter.

  1. universal is doing there best in world that everything cost a lot money too me this isn't permanent as soon next event comes around they make money keep those , areas running to me rather deal with this what Disney is up too.

  2. Wow! That's just not cool - annual passholders should get a discount and tickets should be sold at a discounted rate.

  3. Disney is doing so much more insane things to cut cost. I am a pass holder to both Disney and Universal, and for this article to ask, “imagine if Disney Word did this?” Is tone deaf and discredits the entire article.

  4. This is insulting and offensive to those ticket holders that paid good money at a high price for a complete experience. They are being ripped off.

  5. Who cares? There is a ton in the park prior to that. The vast majority of people are in diagon alley at that time at that park. Absolutely nothing to see.
