Disney has brought the story from the pages of beloved storybooks to life for decades. This time Rick Riordan’s beloved Percy Jackson series has been recreated for the screen. Fans were hoping for the best after a less-than-stellar theatrical rendition of the best seller left viewers feeling underwhelmed.

Disney’s rewrite promised to be a more faithful retelling of the story. Truly, perhaps sticking closely to the original material is just what Disney needed to do to break the spell of underperforming premieres that it has seen with some of its recent theatrical releases.

Happily, it looks as if Disney’s efforts to deliver a retelling of the Percy Jackson series that fans can enjoy paid off. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has broken the record for the biggest premiere for any television show under a Disney Branded Television label. This label does not include Star Wars and Marvel.

The show amassed an impressive 13.3 million views between streaming services Disney+ and Hulu! This type of momentum has the potential to carry into the new year as more episodes of the show drop. You can see the release dates for more new January content from Disney+ right HERE.

Not only does the viewership for Percy Jackson and the Olympians look positive, but so do the ratings from both critics and audiences! Currently, the series has a score of 96% from critics and 87% from audiences on Rotton Tomatoes. All in all, it is certainly positive news for Disney.

Hopefully, Disney+ subscribers will continue to get carefully crafted content that gives them what they want. After all, leisure time is precious, and having quality programming to enjoy is exactly what subscribers are paying for.
