Disney officially announces brand new theming coming to Animal Kingdom theme park! Check out all the details here…
Dinoland Back Story
DinoLand U.S.A. originally started as a small highway town where an amateur fossil-hunter found dinosaur bones. They saved up their money to purchase this area to research everything they could about dinosaurs.
Then, Chester and Hester, two locals, were determined to make a quick buck and converted their gas station into a fossil souvenir shop. Competing with dinosaur hunters, they turned their parking lot into a small amusement park called Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama.
Having two groups “run” this area explains why parts of it look so different. Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama looks more like a carnival with its games, carnival food, and colorful character meets.
Then, the rest of Dinoland features dinosaurs and lends itself to the explorers. Restaurantosaurus is geared toward exploring campers while the Dinosaur attraction and boneyard are all about prehistoric creatures.
Changes
Primeval Whirl was a spinning wild-mouse style roller coaster that dipped, dived, jerked, and spun aka it gave you motion sickness and/or an awful headache. Before closing, guests watched Primeval Whirl slowly fade out with only seasonal opening, then Disney removed the track and signage.
With those incidents and safety in mind, Disney closed the ride permanently. Then, in June 2020, the DinoLand U.S.A. coaster, Primeval Whirl permanently closed and has been completely demolished.
Earlier this year, Moana began having a meet and greet at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! This left us hopeful she would have a greater presence here, but her meet and greet is moving to EPCOT at the Journey of Water attraction.
New Lands Coming
We’re excited to share what is happening in this “dead” park space. At last year’s D23 Event, Josh D’Amaro explained as “blue sky” or something that is entirely new, something new is coming to Animal Kingdom. He hinted at a new Zootopia and Moana Land. But, this is not the case.
This morning at the D23 Expo, Josh D’amaro shared something entirely new coming!! Dinoland U.S.A. is being reimagined to focus on the tropical Americas – the Northern Part of South American and Central America.
These tropical areas include Encanto theming and Indiana Jones! We’re really hopeful Bruno and other Encanto friends will meet here, too! The Dinosaur attraction will be rethemed to Indiana Jones!
Dinoland U.S.A. is being replaced with tropical theming of Encanto and Indiana Jones!
Other exciting Animal Kingdom news announcements today include Zootopia show replacing It’s Tough to be a Bug!

Leave It's Tough to Be a Bug alone. There is plenty of room in Dinoland for Zootoppia. And Indiana Jones should stay in Hollywood Studios. Let's keep Animal Kingdom as a symbol for ecology and the animals.
