Walt Disney truly was a remarkable man. His vision continues to create magical memories for families every day. Walt Disney shared that his dream for Disneyland started when he took his two girls out for “Daddy Day.” As he sat on that park bench eating peanuts and watching his girls play, he was also dreaming.

Disney said, “I felt that there should be something built where the parents and the children could have fun together. So that’s how Disneyland started.”

Although Walt Disney shared much of his vision with the world, there are still many memories that only those who were close to him know about. Legendary Imagineer, Bob Gurr, recently shared a few of these secrets on Instagram.

Many true Disney fans may already know that Walt Disney had an apartment in Town Square above the fire station. Guests can take tours of his apartment daily. Check out Monica’s full review HERE.

What many Disney fans may not be aware of is that Walt Disney would stand at the window of his apartment to see the very first guests enter “his” park. Can you imagine guests walking through the gates, excited for their day at Disneyland, and to see Walt Disney looking at you from his apartment?

Gurr also shares that before the park would officially open, Walt Disney would take a walk down Main Street. No doubt he would be checking to see that everything was in excellent condition for the day, but he would also make a stop at Carnation Cafe.

Carnation Cafe is conveniently located on Main Street, USA at Disneyland. When Disneyland first opened in 1955, this dining location opened as Carnation Cafe Ice Cream Parlor.

Walt Disney would stop in at Carnation Cafe and prepare fresh squeezed orange juice for his wife, Lillian. He would then take it back to their apartment to enjoy. This is such a sweet memory and gives us a glimpse of the sweet relationship between Walt and Lillian.

Walt Disney came into our living room every Sunday evening, courtesy of television, for the Wonderful World of Color. We watched Mr. Disney as a family every week. It was quality time. When "Saving Mr. Banks" was released, I told my family beforehand that if this movie said one bad thing about Mr. Disney or tries to denigrate him in any manner, that I would be walking out. Fortunately, "Saving Mr. Banks" portrayed Walt Disney as the fine "grandpa" I remembered from my youth. God bless Walt Disney. May the Good Lord help the current leaders of Disney steer the company back to Walt's wholesome children and family entertainment vision, and away from their current social reengineering agenda.
