An exciting new land filled with characters, food, attractions, and fun is coming to Florida for the whole family to enjoy. Here are breaking details and pictures of what to expect!
Universal Orlando
It is no secret that Universal Orlando is working hard to update its theme parks. In the past several years, we have seen the opening of smash hit coasters such as Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure as well as Velocicoaster.
We also know that Universal Orlando is opening a fourth gate called Epic Universe. This park will include a land dedicated to Super Nintendo. The park is on track to open in the summer of 2025.
In the meantime, there is a new themed land coming to Universal Orlando! Guests won’t have to wait long to enjoy it.
Illumination’s Minion Land
The Despicable Me Franchise popularized the delightfully zany Minion characters. People of all ages love Kevin and Bob and other yellow pals and the films that depict their adventures.
With such popularity, it is little wonder that the Minion presence is about to expand in Universal Studios Orlando. Now, instead of having one ride, there will be an entire land devoted to Minions! It is set to open in the summer of 2023. Here is what to expect!
New Restaurants and Shops
Soon you will be able to look for Minion and Despicable Me merchandise at Evil Stuff! Apparel, toys, and plenty of other souvenirs to commemorate your trip await.
Even better, there will be not one, but FOUR dining options in the new Minion expansion. Illumination’s Minion Cafe will serve up fun and inventive cuisine. Guests will even be able to watch as Minions prep the menu items and hang out in their “breakroom.”
Meanwhile, be sure to stop by Bake My Day for some sweet treats. You can also grab some cool treats at Freeze Ray Pops. Finally, if popcorn is what you are after, you will find sweet and savory options at Pop-A-Nana.
Character Greets
You will be able to meet some fin characters for photo ops in the new Minion Land. Be sure to stop by Illumination Theatre to greet your Minion friends including Minions and Gru and his family along with other Illumination characters.
New Attraction
All this joins a pair of attractions, one of which is a familiar favorite. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem isn’t going anywhere. Fans will still be able to enjoy this ride through Gru’s laboratory. But soon it will be joined by a very exciting attraction.
The new attraction, which was previously revealed here, is called Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast. The “blaster game experience” will join the new Minion Land and will be located at the former spot of Shrek 4-D at Universal Studios in Orlando.
It is described as an attraction where “Guests will grab an interactive blaster and step onto a motion-based pathway to put their skills to the test.” It sounds like it could very well be something we have not seen before in Orlando Theme Parks.
