Hurricane Ian has caused many issues for people in Florida. Disney has returned to almost normal operations. However, one resort has not reopened causing vacations to be canceled. Read on for all the details.

Last week, Walt Disney World closed for two days as Hurricane Ian made its course toward the Walt Disney World Resort. You can read about flooding at the Swan and Dolphin and damaged buildings at the Contemporary in this post. There was a phased reopening for the Disney Parks and some attractions had delayed reopenings due to possible complications from the storm.

Yesterday we shared that a temporary change has been made for the Flotillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom due to the effects of this storm. You can check out this new temporary change HERE. Also, check out how Kilimanjaro Safari was affected HERE.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground was closed and evacuated prior to Hurricane Ian’s arrival in Central Florida. Click HERE to read the letter that Fort Guests received prior to the campground closure.

At this time Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (including the dinner show Hoop Dee Doo) will remain temporarily closed at this time. Disney confirms that they are contacting Guests with current and upcoming reservations.

Although Disney confirms that they are contacting and assisting Guests with travel plans they do not confirm if those plans are being canceled or rebooked in other accommodations. This is most likely dependent on what is available at the time of the Guest being contacted.

According to online reports it is mixed if Guests are having to cancel or able to get other accommodations. It is also being reported that Guests with reservations with check-ins through October 6th are being contacted by Disney for cancellation or rebooking. Disney has not confirmed this date.

Disney is not confirming how far out they are canceling or how soon of notice they will give you. The Disney Cast Member I (Heather) spoke with stated “We will be happy to assist you with your travel plans when we get in contact with you.” Again, there is no confirmed timeline of how soon to your reservation check-in they could be contacting Guests.

Online reports suggest that The Fort is pushing for an October 7th opening. Hopefully, this is true, but we will be sure to update you when The Fort officially opens. I am hopeful that The Fort will open in time for Halloween as this is a BIG DEAL at The Fort. Campers go all out with Halloween decorations and festivities for the occasion.

I have a guest who is concerned about the closure, whose reservation is for the end of the month. I feel pretty confident the Fort will reopen by then. The guest and I will continue to monitor the situation and make a plan B if it's getting too close for comfort. I can't imagine they would keep the Fort closed through Halloween due to the popularity of the season there!

I think they will too, but I’m glad you guys have a plan b in place just in case it gets too close and still hasn’t opened. Hope your guest likes the fort as much as I do!
