Hurricane Ian is creating extreme weather conditions for Florida residents and guests visiting Orlando theme parks. We have been covering Hurricane Ian as it has transformed from a Tropical Depression to a Major Hurricane. We have been providing many updates like this one by Monica: HERE.

Hurricane Ian is projected to hit Florida by Wednesday with heavy rain and hurricane-force winds. The Orlando theme have been prepping to see a possible hurricane closure as the hurricane moves along its path. Disney World issued an update on their dining cancellation and resort reservation cancellation fees just yesterday!

Earlier today we learned that Orlando International Airport (MCO) will be closing its doors to cease operations. You can read all about that update and what to do if your flight plans were interrupted HERE. We also have an update about another busy international airport that is temporarily closing HERE.

Walt Disney World also declared a some major closures for entertainment, amenities, and transportation. Resort guests are able to continue to stay on site as long as they are not staying at an affected resort. Disney World guests at affected resort were expected to have departed by 8AM. Walt Disney World is no longer offering resort availability as preparation for Hurricane Ian ramps up. Check out the affected dates HERE. Select Disney Resorts will be closed starting this Wednesday.

Closed Theme Parks

We just learned that Universal Orlando Resort is fully closing from Wednesday, 9/28 to Thursday, 9/29 to maintain safety during Hurricane Ian. This means that all operations at Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Universal’s Volcano Bay have been temporarily stopped. Halloween Horror Nights is cancelled on Wednesday, 9/28 and Thursday, 9/29

Another Orlando theme park that has announced it will temporarily close from Wednesday, 9/28 to Thursday, 9/29 is SeaWorld Orlando. This includes SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, and Discovery Cove.

Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, September 28, to Thursday, September 29, 2022.
