Orlando International Airport Makes BIG Step Forward In Refurbishment Project

Orlando International Airport has shared some BIG news! They have made a big step forward in their refurbishment project. Find out what is now in service for travelers!

Orlando International Airport (MCO for short) is a busy airport. Many people traveling to or from Disney World or Universal Orlando use this airport as it is only about a half hour away.

MCO is consistently listed in the top 10 busiest airports in the United States due to the number of travelers visiting Central Florida. At over 11,000 acres, it is also one of the largest airports as well.

MCO is the busiest airport in Florida, the 7th busiest in the United States, and the 25th busiest airport in the world. You can read more about its ranking HERE.

Lengthy Refurbishment Project

Last year, Orlando International Airport announced that they would be undergoing a multi-year refurbishment. The refurbishment is set to include its Gate Link vehicles, tracks, and electrical control equipment. With this project being so big, MCO will complete it in phases.

The refurbishment will impact Gates 100-129, occurring from December 2025 to December 2026. Airlines impacted are Southwest and Avelo. 

For Gates 70-99, the refurbishment will occur from December 2026 to October 2027. This will impact Air Canada, Air Transat, Bahamasair, BermudAir, Delta, Flair, Frontier, LATAM, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Viva, Volaris, and WestJet airlines.

Yikes! This Big Change Will Affect Your Next Trip From The Orlando Airport

MCO has just shared some BIG news! A new Gate Link tram is now in service! This new Gate Link is moving travelers to and from Gates 100-129. Check out he video of the new Gate Link below:

MCO shares that this new Gate Link will offer travelers "modernized infrastructure, brining a smoother and more reliable ride to a connection that is central to their journey through the airport." Each Gate Link set of cars can carry up to 240 passengers!

There is a total of four tram replacements with the Gate Link Replacement Project that will service Gates 70-129 for Airsides 2 and 4. The next phase in the project will be to upgrade the second track that transports travelers to and from Gates 100-129. Once that is completed, the work will move to the Gate Links that service Gates 70-99. The entire project is expected to be completed through 2027.
