New images show progress being made on a recently announced fan-favorite show returning to Walt Disney World! Check out all the details!
Fantasmic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Fantasmic! opened at Disney World in 1998 after its success at the Rivers of America in Disneyland. I (Christina) was 6 years old when Fantasmic! debuted and had a chance to be one of the first people to view it at a Passholders preview showing. I remember being super scared as a kid, but as I got older I quickly grew to love it.
When Disney reopened after the pandemic closure, Fantasmic! was one show that remained dark. Social distancing requirements and safety concerns made it impossible to put on this huge show. As things begin to rebound, we have seen a lot of Disney entertainment return.
There are a lot of differences between the Disneyland version of Fantasmic! and Disney World. You can read all about them HERE, but Disneyland’s version of Fantasmic! was by far the superior show up until the pandemic closures. With new animation and water effects being added to Hollywood Studios, we shall see if Disney World can take over the title for “best Fantasmic! show”!
Fantasmic! Returning
In January 2021 we shared an updated image on the digital Hollywood Studios park map that indicated the show might return in the near future.
Back in November, It was shared with fans visiting the D23 convention in Orlando that Fantasmic! would be returning to delight guests in Spring of 2022. No other reopening information was given, however, we learned that the show would return with some exciting new changes!
A new portion will be added to Fantasmic that will “bring hope and joy to your heart in a scene that you are not going to believe.”
We are told that that new scenes will include characters from Aladdin, Frozen, and Moana.
Fantasmic! Reopening Progress
This month we saw signs pointing to a possible reopening in the near future as fans caught glimpses of Disney testing the show!
Today, thanks to Twitter user bioreconstruct we got a aerial glimpse of the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater and the moat surrounding the stage.
For many months the moat has been drained, but it appears that Disney has now completed the process of refilling the moat which could signal an end to the refurbishment and return to Fantasmic! sooner than we thought!
