We have disappointing news for Guests wanting to take Disney’s Skyliner. Part of the line is now unexpectedly closed. Fortunately, we do have details on what exactly is closed and when it may reopen!
Have you seen those gondolas in the sky with the fun colors and characters? If you are curious what those are, they are none other than Disney’s Skyliner! These gondolas transport Guests from Hollywood Studios and Epcot with a few stops in between.
It is a very quick and efficient mode of transportation when there aren’t any issues. Unfortunately, there have many accidents and closures in the almost 2.5 years it has been open.
In case you missed it, Disney’s Skyliner will temporarily close this month. From January 23 to January 28, it will be closed and Guests will need to find alternate transportation.
During these dates (January 23 – January 28), the line between Epcot International Gateway, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and Disney’s Caribbean Resort will be closed. Guests still have access to Hollywood Studios.
However, it looks like the line from the International Gateway is getting a head start on that refurbishment. KtP Writer Maggie shared that when she tried to take the Skyliner from the International Gateway to Hollywood Studios, she was surprised to see the Skyliner was closed for maintenance.
Instead she took a boat over and chatted with a Cast Member at Hollywood Studios. The Cast Member said the Epcot line is currently closed with no exact timeframe for reopening. However, they are thinking it will open sometime later today, January 19.
Hopefully the International Gateway line will reopen later today, January 19.
Signs at the Hollywood Skyliner entrance do note that the Skyliner is available to/from Hollywood Studios but not at Epcot. With the official refurbishment set to begin in a few days, it appears Disney may be starting it unofficially and working on the pieces that don’t require a full-day closure.
So, what do you do when the Skyliner is closed at the International Gateway? Friendship boats do run to and from the International Gateway, Hollywood Studios, Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht Club, and the Swan/Dolphin Resorts.
Additionally, you can get on a bus from your resort to get to Epcot or Hollywood Studios.
Were you hoping to take Skyliner transportation to/from Epcot before the official refurbishment begins? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.
