An announcement was made today concerning the upcoming Warrior Games for 2021. Find out where these will be held at Walt Disney World and check out the dates.
Warrior Games
If you are anything like me you may be wondering: What are the Warrior Games? These are hosted by the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command. First held in 2010, these games “celebrate the residency and dedication of wounded, ill, and injured active duty and veteran U.S. military service members.”
The Department of Defense 2021 Warrior Games is a unique competitive event that exposes veterans to adaptive sports and “demonstrates the incredible potential of wounded warriors through competitive sports.”
The Warrior Games will be open to men and women of the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, Army, and U.S. Special Operations Command who have been wounded in active duty and also veteran service members. Also included in this competition will be members from ally nations as well.
Dates and Location
The Department of Defense 2021 Warrior Games will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from September 12th through September 22nd. A schedule of events will be released closer to the event.
At this time, the following adaptive sports will be included: archery, cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing, powerlifting, golf, and wheelchair rugby. Sporting events will be held both indoor and outdoor this 220 acre facility.

General Audience Attendance
At this time, the Department of Defense 2021 Warrior Games will be open to the public. This will allow both the local community and visitors as well to support these amazing warriors.

Will They Create the Disney Bubble?
Currently the NBA G League is holding games and in a few days the final tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. NBA players have been housed separately from Disney Resort Guests creating the “Disney Bubble.” This creates a bit of shifting for scheduled Resort Guests.
Some have questioned if a similar “Disney Bubble” may be in place for the competitors of the Department of Defense 2021 Warrior Games. At this time health and safety protocols have not been announced.
