Disney Reveals Future of MagicBands

Prior to the reopening of Walt Disney World, Disney Parks shared that the future of MagicBands may be a little less magical.

In June Walt Disney World shared, “As you begin planning your upcoming visits, we’re also exploring engaging ways for guests to use their mobile tech to experience the magic- particularly now as the use of phones and apps continues to evolve.” You can read more about this HERE.

Email Notification

Today, Guests with Disney Resort arrivals beginning January 1, 2021 received the following email notification:

“Your Walt Disney World vacation is right around the corner and we can’t wait to welcome you here! But before you go, we wanted to send you this helpful reminder.”

“MagicBands will no longer be provided complimentary to Disney Resort hotel Guests with arrivals beginning January 1, 2021. For Disney Resort hotel room entry, Theme Park entry, and charging purchase to your hotel room with a valid credit card, you may use a Key to the World card (provided at the Front Desk). Or, you may use a MagicBand from a past visit or purchase a MagicBand pre-arrival. For more about these options click here.”

“In addition we highly recommend using our Online Check-In/Direct-to-Room service, which allows you to get to the fun faster with real-time, room-ready updates. Sign-up for room ready notifications and use the My Disney Experience app as a digital room key to enter your Disney Resort hotel room.”

Walt Disney World shares that in 2021 they will unveil new innovative features to the My Disney Experience app that will bring MagicBand features to your smart devices.

  1. i have a huge magic band collection. I have a magic band that does something special at the gate for every park. Everybody has a boring phone. These make the process special. I even bought a replica magic band RFID reader that simulates the entrance on Etsy. With so many people collecting and loving these Disney should embrace and expand the use of these.

  2. Vacation is my time to hide from the world so I really try to avoid using my phone as much as possible. I love how easy Magic Bands make that. I’m hoping that other than Rise of Resistance boarding passes I can keep avoiding my phone because they keep all the Magic Band options.
