In an effort to promote social distancing, Guests will forgo checking in with a Cast Member at the podium when they arrive at a restaurant in favor of using the mobile app. Read on for details on how it will work!
In the “before times,” Guests would walk up to the podium outside of each restaurant and give their last name to a Cast Member, who would check them in for their dining reservation.
Now, in an effort to put more distance between people and minimize the number of Cast Members Guests come in contact with, Guests with dining reservations will check in via the My Disney Experience mobile app.
Disney bills this option as one that allows you to maximize your vacation time and minimize your contact with others.
How Does it Work?
When your check in window arises, you will receive a push notification on the app. There will also be the option of a QR code to scan in the restaurant lobby to check in.
Using either the push notification in the app or the QR code, you’ll be able to check in for your reservation and confirm the details of your reservation (party size, arrival time, and so forth).
Once your table is ready, you will be notified and given a specific location to proceed to.

What do you think of this change? Do you welcome the opportunity to minimize contact or will you miss chatting with as many cast members as possible during your stay? Let us know in the comments on Facebook and in our Facebook group.
