A Beloved Furry Cast Member Retires From Disney

One of Disney's beloved Canine Cast Members is celebrating retirement. This is a tribute to his career.

Did you know that Disney's cast members aren't all human? Several furry friends are among their ranks.

In fact, Disney Parks currently has many security dogs working to keep the parks safe and orderly. There are 28 security dogs on Disneyland's roster alone.

Each dog has a nametag and an ID badge just like any other Disney Cast Member. And, they also get a retirement party when their work comes to an end.

Benny the Security Dog

Benny the Security Dog began his work for Disneyland security in 2019. The beautiful golden retriever and his current handler, Kevin, were paired up after Benny's previous handler left the company.

You might have even passed Benny on your way into Disneyland Resort. One of his jobs was to work security at the park entrance.

Benny was known for his smile. In fact, Kevin mentioned,  "A lot of people come in and are like, 'Oh, look at that dog, he's smiling.' He just always brings the room up."

Retirement for Benny

Now, at nearly 9 years old, Benny is ready to hang up his harness and enjoy life at home with Kevin! What is a retirement party like for a Disney Security Dog? Well, in Benny's case, he got to break his very strict diet to enjoy a hot dog for the first time.

Benny the smiling security dog has retired from Disneyland.

Benny will enjoy living the rest of his days as a beloved pet alongside Kevin's other dog. As for Kevin, he has begun training with a new K9 security dog, and she'll begin her work soon!
