With a Theme Park located in Central Florida, most often the warnings we think of first are regarding hurricanes and tropical storms.

None of us expected to add an earthquake to the concerns of a Walt Disney World vacation.

Yesterday, a preliminary report surfaced about a 6.1-magnitude earthquake about 65 miles WNW of Mantua, Cuba. Due to the size of this earthquake, it could be felt in Central Florida, including Walt Disney World.

Soon after Guests and Cast Members felt the earthquake, several attractions were temporarily closed. Find a full listing of attractions affected HERE.

With so many attractions closed, this caused wait times to skyrocket for the other attractions. We are thankful for the many safety measures that Cast Members take to care for Guests.

We were curious about the real reason for these closures.

We heard reports that Cast Members had to inspect the coaster tracks by walking throughout the full attraction. Thanks to Kirk @walruscarpclothing for sharing his experience aboard Tomorrowland's Transit Authority People Mover.

It appears this was a safety check to ensure there were no noticeable signs of concern along them.

Many people in the comments shared that this is a common practice. Thankfully, Space Mountain and other affected attractions reopened later in the day with no structural damage.
