Haunted Mansion Changes
Haunted Mansion was an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom's Liberty Square and has received a few fun changes over the years. One of the most recent and notable changes brought the return of the Hatbox Ghost. This clever illusion is truly spell-binding.
Now it appears that new set elements are coming to the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World recently filed several permits for this attraction.
The entire front of this attraction is now covered in scrim as exterior work is underway.
My Disney Experience Notifications
Walt Disney World will often display pop-up notifications to guests via the My Disney Experience app. This is helpful to communicate ride closures, changes in operations, and important updates.
Yesterday, May 2, 2026, Haunted Mansion did not open at park opening. As the attraction remained closed throughout the day, Guests received an alert via the My Disney Experience app:
"On behalf of the entire team at Magic Kingdom, I'd like to apologize that Haunted Mansion is currently unavailable. Our Cast Members are working diligently to get this attraction up and running again.
We are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time. I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today."
Haunted Mansion Closure
Unfortunately, Haunted Mansion remains closed today, May 3, 2026, as well. A closed attraction does create ripples throughout Magic Kingdom, creating higher wait times for other attractions.
Haunted Mansion is currently unavailable at Magic Kingdom.
If Haunted Mansion is a "must do" for your family, continue checking the My Disney Experience app throughout the day to see if may have reopened.

The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom but if it is shut while I'm there I'll be disappointed but on to the next ride. Disney can't help with things going down and some rides are harder it see closed. The Haunted Mansion is the 1st ride i like to do when at Walt Disney World.
It is one of my favorites as well. I hope it will reopen soon for guests.
