Magic Kingdom Changes
A day spent at Magic Kingdom is an unforgettable experience. It is known as the "Most Magical Place on Earth" for a reason.
As Walt Disney once said, "We keep moving forward," and that is very true at Walt Disney World. This week, the Walt Disney Company shared BIG plans for Walt Disney World over the next 10 years.
Magic Kingdom is embarking on "the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom." With so many construction projects, we are delighted that one shuttered attraction reopens today.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Reopening
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad officially reopens today, May 3, 2026, at Magic Kingdom. You can check out the 4 BIG changes coming to this attraction HERE.
After being closed for over a year, Magic Kingdom debuts a brand new park map, noting that this fan-favorite attraction is now "Refreshed!"
Along with receiving a brand new track and theming elements, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad also offers a lower height restriction for Guests.
Big Thunder Mountain Height Restriction
Previously the height requirement was 40". This will now change for a minimum height requirement of 38". This is great for young Disney fans.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now open at Magic Kingdom.
Many Disney fans were worried that this lower height requirement might mean the "wildest ride in the wilderness" would no longer be quite so wild. Thankfully, it is just as thrilling as before and can now be enjoyed by even more guests with this height restriction change.
Disney even shared a fun edition of "The Tumbleweed Tribune". There are so many fun details! We can't wait to hop aboard this newly refreshed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
