UPDATE - Bob Iger Could Step Down Ahead of Schedule
Earlier today we shared that Disney could be announcing the next CEO as early as next week. Now, Bob Iger is planning to step down earlier than his contract's end date. Find out what we know.
Bob Iger

Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO back in November 2022. Many were hopeful that many issues would be addressed with the return of Bob Iger.
At first, Iger signed a contract for two years. His return was expected to be short, but he wanted to stay around long enough to help the board "succeed at succession".
His contract was later extended and he agreed to continue as CEO through December 31, 2026. Iger is ready to retire…again but desires a smooth transition for the upcoming CEO.
Announcement Possible By Next Week

Earlier today, we shared that the New York Times' Report two sources close to the plans shared that the next CEO could be announced as early as next week. In the report, Josh D'Amarois still the frontrunner for the position.
Even though no official announcement had been made, it was thought the announcement could come with the earnings report for Q1 2026.
Stepping Down Early

The Wall Street Journal reported that Bob Iger plans to step down before the end of his contract per anonymous sources. The WSJ shares that Iger is "frustrated" with "conflicts" at ABC over the Jimmy Kimmel suspension back in September.
The Disney Board has shared that a replacement would be announced in Early 2026.
As more details are shared, we'll be sharing more about Disney's next CEO-check back soon.

Iger has been in the role of Disney CEO for a long time. I fully understand if he wants to leave a little early. I personally find it interesting that there is still friction at ABC over Iger's decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel. This is one of the few major decisions that Iger has made over the past 5 years that I fully supported, and I agreed completely with the reasons given at the time for doing so. If anything, Iger let Kimmel come back too soon. I hope the Disney Board asks Josh D'Amaro to be the next CEO. Josh was there during the Michael Eisner years and he saw Disney's 2nd Golden Age up close. I believe Josh can bring back the magic. I do not believe that Josh thinks his vision for Disney is somehow better than Walt's.
He has been in this role for a long time! I think Josh could bring the magic back too! Can't wait to see who they pick. Thanks for reading!
good riddance
