Refurbishment
From time to time, Disney has scheduled refurbishments for anything from rides and restaurants to hotels. Even though we all may not like seeing or hearing construction, it is a necessary part of keeping things safe and up to date. We all want to be able to enjoy the nice new things, and refurbishments have to happen for this to occur.
Refurbishments can occur at attractions, resorts, restaurants, and even recreational activities.
Unfortunately, these are needed to keep the Disney Parks in their best possible shape to avoid malfunctions and breakdowns. Sometimes they last only a few days or weeks while others may extend for months and months.
Big Thunder Mountain Refurbishment
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is located in Frontierland at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. The popular attraction closed for a multi-month refurbishment at the beginning of September.
Big Thunder Mountain was set to reopen from refurbishment on November 23, 2025.
The Big Thunder Railroad had a reported opening date of November 23, 2025.
Big Thunder Railroad NOW OPEN!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened at Disneyland today! That is three weeks ahead of scheduled.

On the Disneyland app the ride has operational hours and is also accepting Lightning Lane reservations!
Please note: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom at Disney World is still CLOSED for refurbishment. However, we did see the attraction take a big step closer to reopening last week. You can read more about that HERE.
