Walt Disney said it best, "Around here, however, we don't look backward for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

This is most definitely true at Magic Kingdom, Frontierland in particular. The first attraction affected is a quite lengthy refurbishment at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This attraction closed this January and is set to reopen next year with added magic.

Disney is now in the next phase, " for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom," located in and near Frontierland, with the new  Piston Peak National Park experience and promised Villains Land.

Frontierland is looking a bit more like a "Ghost Town" lately, with the large construction walls both at the former Rivers of America and the continued refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

What we didn't expect was to find a new, unexpected refurbishment project at Critter Co-Op. This is the uniquely themed gift shop near Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

This cozy space offers great theming, and at the center of the store is a stone fireplace. Atop is a large portrait of Tiana cooking up her famous gumbo with our of her critter pals from the attraction.

How will this affect your trip?

If you are hoping to shop at Critter Co-Op, this may be a bit challenging. This store offers unique merchandise that is not offered anywhere else at Walt Disney World. Currently, there are half-sized construction walls located in front of the fireplace.

Thankfully, these walls do not extend to the ceiling, but they are still awkward to maneuver around. Unfortunately, these current walls obstruct one set of entrance doors. This creates a bottleneck as guests try to enter and exit this small shop.

It is unclear at this time if work may be taking place on the actual fireplace or on the floor around this space, but we hope that this is a quick refurbishment.
