Is This Disney's Answer to This Recent Ride Malfunction?
Attractions can malfunction and breakdown from time to time to time. Recently, we shared a ride malfunction that happened at Magic Kingdom. We visited this attraction since then, see what we experienced.
Little Mermaid Ride Malfunction
Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid is an omnimover attraction in Magic Kingdom. Board a clamshell and become part of Ariel's world as you experience scenes from the classic animated film.
This attraction recently closed for a short refurbishment back in July 2025. However, a recent malfunction left Guests shocked.

Recent Experience
Last night, during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, we headed over to Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid to see how Ariel was doing. We were happy to see that the attraction was open and welcoming Guests, so we were hopeful to see Ariel back to her normal self.
Unfortunately, we were sad to see that Ariel was not functioning at all. Check out the video of Ariel below:
As you can see in the video above, during our ride, she was not moving at all. She was back to a normal position, but she did not dance along to any of the music by bobbing her head and swishing her tail.
What Does This Mean For You?
We are glad that Guests are still able to enjoy the Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid attraction even if one of the animatronics isn't working properly. Even if the ride is still operational, it can still be disappointing for Guests, as the ride is not functioning the way it was intended.
Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid remains open for Guests to enjoy.
It is unclear if the Ariel animatronic not working is in response to the malfunction the other day or another issue. We hope this is just a short term fix, and Ariel will be back dancing and fully functional soon. If you experience a ride malfunction, be sure to report it to a Cast Member to help the magic return for future Guests.
