The animated How to Train Your Dragon films were adapted from the book series by the same title. Now, DreamWorks has released a live-action version of the beloved movie. It hit theaters on June 13, 2025. 

Live-action remakes of animated favorites tend to be hit or miss with fans, especially when nostalgia is involvedIn fact, these remakes draw plenty of concerns and criticism. However, they also tend to go on to do pretty well at the box office despite the feelings of fans who see no reason to try to remake the original films.

Digital Release

How to Train Your Dragon Live Action

Films typically are available for purchase or rent (digitally) about 45 to 65 days after their theatrical premiere. You can see when we hoped to see the digital version released HERE. Fortunately, we do not have to wait that long!

The live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" will be available for digital release tomorrow, July 15, 2025. It will cost $29.99 to buy and $24.99 to rent.

The film would be available on platforms like Apple TV+, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home. The 4K Blu-ray/DVD will release on August 12th.

When Will it Be Available on Peacock?

The live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" is a Universal Pictures film and will eventually come to Peacock. Usually, films become available on the streaming platform three to four months after their theatrical debut.
