Orlando International Airport is preparing for heavy crowds this holiday weekend. Find out the projected numbers and when the busiest day of the weekend is expected to be.

Orlando International Airport (MCO for short) is a busy airport. Many people traveling to or from Disney World use this airport as it is only about a half hour away.
The summer travel season is just around the corner, with some saying it starts with Memorial Day.
Some consider Memorial Day to be the start of the summer travel season. Orlando International Airport expects about a two percent increase in travelers versus last year.
Memorial Day Travel Period

MCO considered the Memorial Day travel period to last only six days. It begins on Thursday, May 22nd and runs through Tuesday, May 27th.
In this short time, MCO expects almost 1 million travelers (980,945 travelers to be exact) to come through the airport!

The busiest day of the Memorial Day Weekend travel period is expected to be today, Friday, May 23rd with 174,910 travelers expected to pass through. Memorial Day (Monday, May 26th) is following closely behind with 173,932 passengers expected. In the image above you can see the comparision of departures from last year to this year.
What Does This Mean to You?

Even though this weekend’s crowds are expected to be lower than the busiest day at Orlando Airport, airport officials still recommend these tips to have an enjoyable experience when visiting. They recommend the 3-2-1 timeline.
MCO recommends travelers use the 3-2-1 timeline. 3: Be at the ticket counter at least 3 hours prior to your departure time. 2: Head to security 2 hours prior to your departure time. 1: Be at your gate 1 hour prior to your departure time.
