If you are headed to Universal Orlando you will need to know about closures so you can manage your expectations. Here is the latest information about one ride that is closed with no reopening date.
Closures
No one likes to hear that a closure will be taking place in a theme park during their visit. This is especially true if it is for an attraction that you and your travel party have on your must-do list.
However, they are necessary to keep the attractions maintained and safe for everyone. After all, safety needs to be a priority in order for everyone to have fun.
We already know about several temporary ride closures in Universal Orlando including a few at Islands of Adventure like One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish. Also, Revenge of the Mummy and E.T. have refurbishments coming up in Universal Studios.
Pteranodon Flyers
Pteranodon Flyers is a popular attraction in Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando. It is a tough attraction to ride for several reasons.
For one thing, riders MUST be below 56” tall or accompanied by a child in order to ride. Moreover, the ride only has 3 ride vehicles, so the wait time can become very long because so few people can experience the attraction at once.
However, in the middle of last week, Pteranodon Flyers went down. It has not reopened since.
Reopening Date
The attraction has now been added to the closure calendar for Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Sadly, there is no reopening date noted.
There is no reopening date for Pteranodon Flyers yet.
We are hopeful that Universal will figure out what needs to be fixed and have the ride up and running again soon. We will keep you up to date here as soon as further news emerges.

Can anyone explain why you must be accompanied by a child? I always wanted to ride this but have no children. Why can't an adult who meets height requirements ride alone?

Hi, Stacey! That is a great question. I am not sure why the rule was created stating that an adult must be accompanied by a rider between 36 and 56" in height. The only explanation I have ever heard from the team members is "it is for kids" as they turned away adult-only parties.
The rule even applies to kids. I have a child under 10 who is tall for his age, and is too tall for the ride. The team members would now allow him on it without his little sister. One parent was allowed to walk to the ride entrance with them and then wait at the exit (but could not ride with them). I will say, it sure makes the little ones feel very important.
I hope you are able to ride someday! Thanks for reading.
