Disney Legends

The Disney Legends Awards is a “Hall of Fame” style program that was established to honor gifted animators, Imagineers, songwriters, actors, business leaders, and beyond for the significant impact they’ve had on the Disney legacy. After all, what would Disney be without the countless hard-working people behind the magic?

The program began in 1987. Its first inductee was none other than Fred MacMurray (The Shaggy Dog, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Happiest Millionaire).

Over the years, hundreds of greats have been inducted. Some have a living legacy. Others like Carrie Fisher, Chadwick Boseman, and Angela Lansbury have left marks on the world that live on in our memories.

Becoming a Legend

Each year, a selection committee has the difficult task of identifying the new Disney Legends. There are 3 important elements to consider.

The first of these is imagination, the power of an idea. Perhaps legends possess the gifts of skill, discipline, and craftsmanship. Or perhaps they embody the spark that is ignited when imagination and skill combine to create a new dream.

If you want to celebrate these legends live and in person, you can do so. The ceremony will happen at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. It is set to happen on Sunday, August 11, at 5 p.m. at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Ryan Seacrest will host.
