Refurbishment Month

Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney Parks. These may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment can take place for many reasons. Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment may take a few days or several months.

Although the Disney Parks stay busy throughout the calendar year, there are slower times for the parks. With the growing list of refurbishments, it appears that January may be “Refurbishment Month” for the Disney Parks.

The growing list of refurbishments now affects Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain closed on January 16 for a brief refurbishment. At this time, Big Thunder Mountain is planning to reopen to guests on January 21, 2024.

Along with this closure is the continued work of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This replaced the previous Splash Mountain attraction. It does appear that possible signage may be in the works at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Work is well underway for this attraction, but due to construction, the bathrooms adjacent to Tiana’s Bayou Adventures in Frontierland are now closed.

It is expected that these restrooms may reopen next week which will coincide with the reopening of Big Thunder Mountain.

Frontierland restrooms are now closed while construction is underway at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The Walt Disney Railroad Frontierland station is still open, but a new pathway is in place due to current construction. Simply follow along the continuous string of construction walls to find the new staircase up to the station.

Currently, the only attractions open in Frontierland are Tom Sawyer Island and the Country Bear Jamboree. Just as a reminder, Country Bear Jamboree will close at the end of the month for much-needed refurbishment.

In Tiana’s infamous words, “We’re almost there” for the 2024 opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but for the time being Frontierland is basically a “ghost town” for Magic Kingdom guests.
