MagicBand Restrictions are Now in Place for Select Guests

MagicBands are handy watch-like devices you wear to make your Disney vacation easier. You can do so many things with them! Select Guests will now find there is a new restriction in place.

At both Disney World and Disneyland, Guests can purchase MagicBands to wear during their vacation. While not necessary, they can definitely make your days in the parks a lot easier.

You can use MagicBands to enter the theme parks, tap into your Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane return times, charge food and purchases to your Disney World hotel, and so much more.

There are so many designs and colors which adds to the fun of picking out your MagicBand. You can purchase them in the park, but you can also order them ahead of your arrival.

If you choose to order your MagicBand ahead of your arrival, you can do so in My Disney Experience app. It will link to your resort reservation, and you can even receive a discount if you order ahead of time!

This is a big draw to ordering them before your trip. Unfortunately, international Guests are running into an issue.

Update: Cast Members confirm Disney is no longer allowing international Guests to order their MagicBands ahead of time.

Why?

The last few years have been a bit difficult for MagicBands. First, Disney completely did away with the plain-colored, complimentary MagicBands a few years ago. Now, everyone will have to pay for one.

Second, they have become more expensive. With the introduction of MagicBand+, most MagicBands cost between $35 and $45. Sometimes you can catch them on sale, but there’s no guarantee.

We are unsure why Disney stopped allowing pre-arrival bands for international guests. It seems Disney is trying to move toward other technology instead.

Old magic bands can be tagged to your Disney experience account and your participants in that account.

Just new ones can't be purchased until arrival. If international.

That's the change. You can no longer purchase ahead and have them at the hotel front desk when you arrive.

I wonder if it is because the new ones have a lithium battery has opposed to the old ones using a passive reader.
