Recently, we shared that J.D. Power held a survey that was held from March 2022 through March 2023. This survey included things such as policies on baggage, check-in, cost and fees, in-flight services, aircraft that was flown, boarding, reservations and flight crew.

The results are as follows in the basic and economy category:

  1. Southwest
  2. Delta
  3. Jet Blue

New Upgrade

Southwest is beginning to upgrade their fleet. One particular Boeing 737 underwent a month-long renovation, and now it has (among other cosmetic upgrades) power and charging ports in every seat!

Each seat has a 60-watt USB-C Port and a 10.5-watt USB-A Port. This is a wonderful change for passengers who wish to charge devices in-flight.

Find all the details about the upgrade HERE.

NEW Price Increase

Southwest has increased the price of Upgraded Boarding. This is different than Early Bird check-in which is also an additional fee from your ticket that automatically checks you in for your flight 36 hours in advance. Early Bird does not guarantee an A boarding group.

Southwest has increased the price of Upgraded Boarding (Spots A1-15) to $30-$80.

Upgraded Boarding is spots A1-15. The total number of these is fixed as some are sold as Business Select and the remaining are able to be sold 24 hours before the flight. This used to cost $60 at most, but now it can be as high as $80.

The new range for this add on will be $30-$80 and this will depend on the length and popularity of the flight.

But can you avoid the cost and still board early? For some, yes. People who have the Southwest’s premium co-brand credit card with Chase can still get FOUR Upgraded Boardings per year. However, that card comes with a yearly fee.

Sucks! Bad for families who would like to sit together. Already pay for Early Burd check in but when you need to sit with children too old fro early boarding but still too young to sit alone. I always used to fly SW but they rarely have direct flights from Philadelphia to Orlando and the prices are higher and now it is worse.
