In a major Sunday night shakeup, Disney announced that Bob Iger would immediately step in as CEO for The Walt Disney Company. For those of you who do not not the history, Iger served as CEO from 2005 to 2020 when Bob Chapek became the next CEO.

Iger is loved and adored by many Disney fans. He was responsible for Disney’s acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. Things were going great until February 2020 when Iger announced he was stepping down. Disney named Bob Chapek the next CEO, and the next 2.5+ years were tough for Chapek as he weathered the pandemic as well as many controversial hiccups with his leadership style and decisions.

What Iger is tasked with

In the announcement, Iger is tasked with the following.

Mr. Iger, who spent more than four decades at the Company, including 15 years as its CEO, has agreed to serve as Disney’s CEO for two years, with a mandate from the Board to set the strategic direction for renewed growth and to work closely with the Board in developing a successor to lead the Company at the completion of his term.

Iger will serve as CEO for two years, and one of his objectives is to work with the Board in developing a successor.

But, who will that successor be? Who will be the new CEO in two years?

Possible candidate

Before becoming the CEO of the company in February 2020, Chapek served as the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products. Right now, fan-favorite Josh D’Amaro holds that position.

Is it possible Iger is going to start training D’Amaro to take over as CEO in two years? According to many, he certainly has the charisma and popularity needed to be the face of The Walt Disney Company.

It seems to be a natural progression for D’Amaro to eventually serve as CEO as he is now in charge of all things Parks, Experiences, and Products. While we do not know for certain what the future holds, we will be sure to look for clues and signs of who the next CEO will be.

Who do you think the next CEO will be in two years? Do you think it will be D’Amaro? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.

I hope it's not Josh D'Amaro. The parks are going in the wrong direction. Disney needs someone who bring back the former magic (and excellent customer experience) to the parks.
