Check out the latest weather update on Storm Nicole and see how that affects people at Disney World right now.
Tropical Storm Nicole
Earlier, we shared that Subtropical Storm Nicole is set to bring heavy wind and rains to Florida this week. You can read more about this update HERE. At that time, the National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Orange and Osceola Counties.
Past Hurricanes at Disney World
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. That’s half the year! The bulk of hurricanes hit during the months of August, September, and October. September is considered peak hurricane season in Florida.
In the past, Disney World has only closed a handful of times due to hurricane activity in the area. These include:
- 1999: Hurricane Floyd
- 2004: Hurricane Charley
- 2004: Hurricane Frances
- 2004: Hurricane Jeanne
- 2016: Hurricane Matthew
- 2017: Hurricane Irma
- 2022: Hurricane Ian
For travelers headed to Disney World during this time of year, it is important to be prepared and stay aware of weather conditions. This includes packing extra items like battery chargers, medications, and baby supplies. It may also be wise to turn on all weather alerts and keep a close eye on severe weather patterns right before and during your vacation.
We will continue to share updates as this storm progresses. Be sure to check out this guide to hurricane preparations at Disney Parks. We pray for all those impacted by this storm.
Just a few minutes ago @GilsonWeather reported that Tropical Storm Nicole has strengthened with winds reaching 75 miles per hour. It’s officially been updated to Hurricane Nicole. At that time, it was about 105 miles from West Palm Beach.
Storm Nicole has just been upgraded to a hurricane!
