Bad news for guests visiting Walt Disney World this week. One of the most popular attractions has been closed on and off for multiple days, and today isn’t looking promising for it to reopen.

Ride Closures

You have the best touring plans in place, and you are at the park only to discover that your top attraction is closed. Disney World rides close all the time. Severe weather, mechanical or technical malfunctions, and Guests doing the wrong thing can all shut an attraction down.

Oftentimes, the ride reopens when the weather passes or the issue gets fixed. However, sometimes it can also lead to a multi-day closure. Ride closures not only affect that attraction but create a ripple effect as well. Higher wait times can be seen at other park attractions as guests scramble to revamp their touring plans.

Each Walt Disney World Park has their BIG attractions that all guests hope to enjoy. Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there are not as many attractions so when one goes down it can affect your day. We saw this recently when the entire Land of Pandora failed to open at the Park opening and then again when the entire attraction was evacuated.

Expedition Everest is one of my (Donna) favorite attractions at Walt Disney World. It falls just second to Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. On Thursday, August 18th, Expedition Everest experienced extended downtime of about 3 hours. Yesterday, Expedition Everest was closed for the entire day. Today does not look promising for the reopening of Expedition Everest.

This morning, guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom received a notification via the My Disney Experience app from Sarah Riles, Vice President of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The notification states, “Pardon the Inconvenience: On behalf of the entire team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I’d like to apologize that Expedition Everest- Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is unavailable today. Our Cast Members have been working diligently to get the attraction up and running again, and we are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time. I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today.”

Currently, Lightning Lane selections are not offered for this attraction. At this time, Disney has not stated when this attraction may reopen. We hope that this attraction will reopen soon for guests.
