A Popular Magic Kingdom Attraction Fails to Open

For a stress-free Disney or Universal Studios vacation, let the FREE expert planners at Royal Carriage Vacations take care of every detail including dining reservations, applying discounts, and onboard cruise credit.

Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park in the world. Imagine visiting and not being able to ride one of its most popular attractions.

Attraction Closures

Will this Iconic Disney Attraction Be Forced into New Theming?

Rides close for a number of reasons. Disney may need to perform extended maintenance so the ride closes for a refurbishment. This is very common, and in fact, sometimes those refurbishments are even extended. Just last week, we shared that Expedition Everest will remain closed longer than originally planned.

Other times, a portion of a ride closes. Perhaps work on part of the attraction is needed, but closing the entire ride is not necessary. This is currently happening at Tower of Terror. We saw extremely high wait times last week as Disney closed down some of the elevators.

Sometimes attractions close due to unforeseen circumstances. If the ride breaks down and Disney cannot immediately get it back up and running, Guests may be forced to evacuate the ride. We saw this with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster last week as well.

As is the case today, an attraction may not open at all. Also last week, Rise of the Resistance failed to open. Now, a ride at Magic Kingdom has not opened for the day.

Drop into a whimsical world filled with classic characters and songs on this thrilling log-flume adventure. Join the happy-go-lucky Br’er Rabbit as he looks for his “laughing place.” But be warned: Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox are in hot pursuit of this wayward hare.

This is a classic attraction at Magic Kingdom. It also happens to be one of the most popular. After Disney announced it would be rethemed to a Princess and the Frog ride, Guests are flocking to it to ensure they get one last ride on it as Splash Mountain.

If you are in the parks often (like me, Monica) you never know when it will be your last ride as Splash Mountain. While we do not have a timeline for this retheme or when it may close, it is still on the table. We will be sure to update you as soon as any Disney shares any information.

Unfortunately, Slash Mountain has not opened yet today, March 2. It recently reopened from its yearly winter refurbishment, but it appears it may need a bit more work. We are not sure when it may reopen. If you are at Magic Kingdom today, keep an eye on your My Disney Experience app!

We are AP at Universal as well as Disney and live next to Disney property, so always in the parks. Why doesn't universal have daily break down issues like Disney? We don't see trash cans overflowing and bathrooms that need servicing at Universal like we do at Disney?

I think it saves Disney money when a ride is down. Less staff. Also longer lines on other rides causes guests to walk around buy food and drinks as well as shop in the stores. How about all the character spots where guests used to spend lots of time getting signatures and photos? They are gone! Now less characters and just a passing by wave for those around. This creates longer lines for rides and more money spent by guests. Hour long lines - hmmmm perfect time for popcorn, ice cream, pretzels and drinks.
