Review: The Most Overrated Epic Universe Snack

Epic Universe has some truly great food. However, we think one of the most popular snacks is highly overrated. This may be a hot take, but here is our honest review.

Dining at Epic Universe

Epic Universe is open, and the rides and great shows aren’t the only things attracting people to the park. Dining in Epic Universe is truly otherworldly.

There are 2 full-service restaurants: Atlantic and Blue Dragon. And, there are plenty of quick service locations equipped with mobile ordering to save you time.

Of course, there are also plenty of snacks. Some of them are worth it, but at least one is overrated.

Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel 

If you head over to How To Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk, you will find several places to grab food. One of these is Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel.

Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel has become somewhat Instagram famous for its snack offerings. You can also stop by to refill your Freestyle Mugs or pick up some complimentary water.

Here you will find the famous Mac & Cheese Cones. They come in 3 different flavors. And, they are available on Mobile Ordering, so you can skip the line!

Mac & Cheese Cone Review

You may see these all over your socials and think they look great. But, honestly, these are not a must-eat for my (Kate’s) family. We tried them, and they were fine, but not tasty enough to justify the price tag.

The Classic Mac and Cheese Cones cost $11.99 each. The bread cone comes with Mac & Cheese and Goldfish crackers. If you want one of the other flavor options, the cost increases a bit.

The cones are pretty big, and they are definitely filling. You could make a meal off of one if you wanted to. But, grab some extra napkins because they can be a bit of a mess to eat.

The Mac & Cheese Cones are fine, but nothing special.

We thought the flavor profile is where they fell a little flat. The macaroni was fine. The cheese is stickier than it is creamy. Also, the cheese makes the goldfish a little soggy if you don’t eat them quickly, so if you are a texture person, eat those first. The bread cone was the part of the dish that detracted the most from its appeal. It was tough, dry, and hard to bite.

If there were not many food options in Epic Universe, that would be one thing. But the fact is that there are just too many great things to eat in Epic Universe to waste stomach space on foods that don’t measure up.
