A Disney+ Prequel Series in Development is now Indefinitely Postponed

I have sad news for anyone waiting for this highly-anticipated prequel series.

Sequels, prequels, remakes. Disney loves to take classic animated films and expand on their story lines. We have seen live-action remakes of just about every Disney animated film (or at least it feels that way).

Love them or hate them, Disney has a lot of content to create for its streaming service, Disney+. Not only can we expect a lot of original series but also remakes, prequels, and sequels as well.

One such prequel many were looking forward to will now be delayed.

Beauty and the Beast

Way back in March of 2020, we learned that a prequel to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast would be developed for Disney+. After the success of the live-action remake in 2017, Disney said “why not?” Both Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprised their roles of Gaston and LeFou for the prequel. It was also announced that the story line would follow Gaston and LeFou’s as they set off with LeFou’s sister on an unexpected journey.

We also learned not too long after the prequel would be simply be titled “Little Town.” You can read about that HERE. Additionally, stars like Rita Ora and Fra Fee are set to join the cast. At this time, this is all we know for the prequel other than it will debut on Disney+.

Delayed

According to Variety, this production is now indefinitely delayed. Filming was supposed to begin this summer in Europe, “but certain creative elements were not yet ready, which would have delayed shooting.”

They also state that due to creative and scheduling issues, the team has decided to revisit the series at a later time.

The Beauty and the Beast live-action prequel is now indefinitely postponed.

I am sorry if you were looking forward to this prequel! The live-action Beauty and the Beast happens to be one of my favorite remakes, so I was excited to see this one. We will keep you updated when production starts back up!
