We now have a possible opening date for Typhoon Lagoon

Some signs point to a possible reopening for Typhoon Lagoon at Walt Disney World. Read on for details.

Typhoon Lagoon has been closed since before March 2020. Down the road, Blizzard Beach reopened in March of 2021, but the gates at Typhoon Lagoon remain closed.

Disney has two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. You can see a comparison of the two parks here.

Both parks have that signature Disney storyline and theming, but the themes are quite different!

Blizzard Beach is supposed to be a ski resort that was built after a freak blizzard in Florida. Now, the snow is melted and the ski slopes have turned into water slides!

The story of Typhoon Lagoon tells of a typhoon wreaking havoc on a pristine tropical paradise. You can see the shipwrecked Miss Tilly, a shrimp boat that was thrown off course by the storm.

Generally, Disney keeps both water parks open during the spring and summer months. Then, one closes for refurbishment while the other remains open during the winter. After a few months, the two parks switch, and the other park gets refurbished.

Reopening Typhoon?

According to the calendar for Blizzard Beach, it will close for annual refurbishment on December 25, 2021.

If Disney plans to follow their above model to keep one water park open at a time, it stands to reason that Typhoon Lagoon would be opening on December 26!

After what appeared to be a significant refurbishment based on aerial photos from twitter account @bioreconstruct, things are looking a lot closer to being ready for guests now!

Personally, I like both of the water parks at Disney! But neither hold a candle to Universal’s Volcano Bay!
