Severe weather has entered the Orlando area and Walt Disney World. As a result, there are not many attractions open at the moment. Check out what is closed and what to do if you ever get stuck in bad weather.

Bad Weather

April showers have made their way to Disney World today, April 11. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of the afternoon affecting the theme parks and resorts.

As a result, all outdoor attractions at all four theme parks are temporarily closed. Check out the My Disney Experience app wait times:

Thankfully, indoor rides are still operating. However, now those attractions will experience higher waits as Guests try to get out of the bad weather. For example, Space Mountain has 35 minute wait while Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has a 40 minute wait.

Flight of Passage is sitting at 60 minutes and Soarin’ has a 50 minute wait wait. The highest current wait at time of publication is Tower of Terror with a whopping 95 minute wait!

What to do when it rains

I guess I’d rather wait the storms out inside than try to get back to the resort. I recommend trying to get to a spot where there are several indoor attractions. For example, Fantasyland has The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey’s Philharmagic, it’s a small world, and Haunted Mansion semi close together.

EPCOT’s Land Pavilion has Awesome Planet, Soarin’, Living with the Land, and a restaurant. That seems like a good spot to wait out the rain.

The land of Pandora has two attractions – both inside – Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. If I were at Hollywood Studios during bad weather I would try to get to an indoor relaxation zone and wait it out.

If the weather isn’t too terrible, be on the lookout for the Rainy Day Cavalcade at the Magic Kingdom. Check out photos HERE.

Of course, if you aren’t at the theme parks during bad weather, I would wait it out in your room. The great thing about smaller hotels like Riviera and Grand Floridian is you don’t have to walk outside to grab some food. I recommend turning on a movie or getting that mid-day nap in.

Hopefully the weather passes soon! Are you in the parks today? Please share your experience with us in the comments below or on Facebook! You can also share them in our KtP Crew.

Helen, it’s a big deal when you’re in the park with little to do! It’s nice to have alternatives and someone’s perspective that’s ‘been there’.
