Disney Area Hotels Extend Closure, Share New Reopening Date

Two Disney-area hotels recently announced their closures have been extended. Read on to see the new reopening date!

The only official word we have so far from Walt Disney World about the reopening of their resorts is that Disney Vacation Club Resorts and the Fort Wilderness Campground will open on June 22nd.

We have not heard yet if regular Disney resorts will open before the parks begin to re-open on July 11th starting with The Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

The Swan and Dolphin Resort is an independently owned hotel on Disney property, so they have been setting their own reopening date.

The previous date given on their website was July 6th. This would have made it another option for staying on Disney property when the parks reopen, especially for those hoping to be close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios when those parks open on July 15th.

But it seems that now this will not be possible.

The language on the Swan and Dolphin website has changed and now reads:

“In order to better serve our guests during the temporary closure of Walt Disney World Theme Parks and hotels, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin will close effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 12:00pm EST through July 29, 2020.”

The website goes on to give more information about their updated cancellation policy:

For guests with existing reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates that are typically more restrictive, we will allow full changes or cancellation without a charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival, as long as the change or cancellation is made by July 29, 2020. Please note that any changes to existing reservations will be subject to availability and any rate differences.

For guests making new reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates, from today until July 29, 2020, we will allow the reservation to be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival date. Please note that changes to the reservation will be subject to availability and any rate differences.
