Unexpected Fireworks Testing at Disney's Hollywood Studios

We were surprised to hear fireworks being tested at Disney's Hollywood Studios last night. Find out what this new testing may mean.

Earlier this week, we shared that Disney had warning signs posted in several EPCOT Resort lobbies stating: "Beginning at 10:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, through 1:30 am on Wednesday, September 2, Guests will hear sporadic fireworks due to routine testing."

We assumed this testing would take place at EPCOT, but it appears this late-night fireworks testing took place at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Guests noticed several large fireworks soaring higher than the traditional fireworks offered inside the park.

The question is, what will this fireworks testing be used for? Beginning November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027, Disney's Hollywood Studios will host Jollywood Nights. November dates are set for select Saturdays and Mondays, with December events on select Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays.

This new fireworks testing could be in preparation for Jollywood Nights. Since this special ticketed event began in 2023, every year they add more for this event.

Perhaps this new testing could be added to "Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam".

There is another possible reason for fireworks testing. Disney offers special events throughout the year; they are listed on the Walt Disney World website. However, there are also private special events that pop up occasionally.

Disney's Hollywood Studios tested several rounds of fireworks on August 31, 2026.

Disney's Hollywood Studios closes on October 20, 2026, at 5:00 for all Park Guests. Perhaps these tests for fireworks were for this private event by Gartner IP Symposium/Xpo.
