Kingdom Hearts is a video game series owned by the Walt Disney Company and developed by Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios. The game is a crossover between Disney IP and an original fictitious universe.
The game's plot follows the main character Sora, who traverses various worlds and fights villains with his Keyblade. He is joined on his adventures by his friends Donald Duck and Goofy!
The first game launched in 2002 on PlayStation 2, and since then, the series has amassed quite a devoted fandom. In fact, over 36 million copies of Kingdom Hearts games have been sold worldwide. Over the years, Kingdom Hearts has amassed a devoted fanbase with deep emotional ties to the game.
A New Kingdom Hearts TV Series
Now, Kingdom Hearts fans have something new to get excited about. Huge Kingdom Hearts news came out of D23, the ultimate Disney fan event happening this weekend.
Kingdom Hearts is getting its own animated television series! So far, the details are limited, but we do know that the show will feature an all-new story that expands on the franchise.
According to Disney, "The series reimagines the iconic adventure with a brand-new story that will expand on the universe of Kingdom Hearts while celebrating the characters that have captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world." Disney says the series was developed in partnership with both Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts game, and the team at Square Enix.
How to Watch Kingdom Hearts the Series
Kingdom Hearts The Series will be avaliable on both Disney+ and the Disney Channel. There is no release date as of yet. We just know it is "coming soon."
