Many Disney fans may not realize that both Walt Disney World and Disneyland are protected under a "No-Fly Zone" order. A similar order was put in place for Washington, D.C., after the attacks on September 11, 2001.

In 2001, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) put a temporary "No-Fly Zone" order at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Then, in 2003, this order became permanent as both parks were identified as potential targets.

This order makes it illegal for any aircraft to fly below 3,000 feet within 3 miles of the Theme Parks.

Interestingly, Walt Disney World and Disneyland are the only Theme Parks that have a "No-Fly Zone Order" granted to them.

Back in 2022 (when the conflict first began between Governor DeSantis and the Walt Disney Company), Congressman Troy E. Nehls of Texas proposed the Airline's Independent of Restrictions (AIR) Act. This was an effort to remove the two no-fly zones over Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Then, back in May 2023, Congressman Nehls reintroduced this bill, but no further news was shared afterward.

This past weekend, the Orange County Sheriff's Office received authorization from the FAA to use drones to monitor the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon weekend.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office shared, "Four OCSO drone pilots supported the event under FAA authorization, marking the first year our agency has provided drone assistance for the Disney marathons."

This was a great way for the Orange County Sheriff's Office to provide safety for all participants, but it does make us wonder how this may affect the "No-Fly Zone" permanent order.
