Our Favorite Animal Kingdom Character Destination Is Now Closed

It’s no secret that Animal Kingdom is a bit lackluster in the character department, and now one of our favorite meet and greet locations has closed. See which new characters will be arriving soon.

Animal Kingdom Changes

DinoLand is about to become extinct at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. An entirely new land is on the way. Unfortunately, this new expansion also means the closure of our favorite attractions.

This has created a character shakeup for many of our favorite Animal Kingdom character interactions. Check the most recent changes HERE.

Disney announced the final date to “Go catch that dino!” aboard DINOSAUR, but before the last adventure, guests can enjoy a special overlay for this attraction. Find out more about this change HERE.

Russell and Dug Meet and Greet

This morning, the Wilderness Explorers Clubhouse is now closed with construction walls surrounding it, but guests can still meet Dug and Russell; they are a bit harder to find.

Russell and Dug are now greeting guests at the backside of the Tree of Life near the bridge to Africa. Due to current construction work, the only entrance for this meet and greet is near Creature Comforts.

Although we were not expecting this location to close today, we may know the reason behind it.

New Characters Coming to Animal Kingdom

Zootopia Better Zoogether” will open on November 7, 2025 at the former “It’s Tough To Be a Bug” theatre insdie the Tree of Life.

Guests will also be able to meet Judy and Nick from Zootopia at Discovery Island near the Tree of Life at the Zoogether Day Gathering Spot. They will be sporting new looks from the new Zootopia 2. We assume that the Wilderness Explorers Clubhouse closure is to prep this space for Judy and Nick arriving soon.
