Permit Filed for One of Disney World's Biggest Fails

Some of Disney's ideas are mind-blowing, and others are not so great. Now, Walt Disney World files permits to begin work on one of its greatest fails.

The 2-day galactic experience aboard the Galactic Starcruiser  opened to guests on March 1, 2022, after months and months of anticipation. Disney gives guests an immersive vacation, including a two-night, cruise-style itinerary.

Guests were the heroes of their own adventures in an experience that surrounded guests in Star Wars storytelling 24 hours a day! The 2-day experience costs $6,000 for a typical family of four.

Unfortunately, this high price tag made this experience unattainable for many Disney guests. After being open only slightly over a year, the Galactic Starcruiser completed its final voyage on September 30, 2023.

This proved to be a pretty epic fail for the Walt Disney Company. Many hoped that this space might be used as a character-themed meal in Galaxy's Edge, but this past January, we shared that the Galactic Starcruiser will become office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Although this office space seems a bit unique and comes with a pretty high price tag, this does make sense.

At this time, Walt Disney World has several major projects underway with Walt Disney Imagineers hard at work. The Walt Disney Company shared several big projects over the next 10 years for Walt Disney World.

Disney has filed a new permit for an address that is associated with the abandoned Galactic Starcruiser for "General Construction". Balfour Beatty Construction (often used for major construction projects at Walt Disney World) is listed as the contractor for this project.

As with most permits filed for Walt Disney World, the permit expires on August 26, 2026. Disney has not confirmed work on the Galactic Starcruiser, but the address and timeframe seem to point to work on the Galactic Starcruiser.
