Disney Now Prohibits This Aboard Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway

After many warnings, Disney has now taken new measures to help keep Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway operating more effectively. What do you think of this change?

Guests Behaving Badly

Over the last few years, we have seen our fair share of poorly behaved Guests. Whether that be jumping in the water at Living with the Landbrawls breaking out, or a drunk man shutting down the Skyliner, we feel like we have seen it all.

Disney even went so far as to post a courtesy reminder on the website a few years ago.

Be the magic you want to see in the world. You must always remember to treat others with respect, kindness, and compassion. Those who can't live up to this simple wish may be asked to leave Walt Disney World Resort.

On occasion, Disney has added new rules to attractions for the safety of all guests. We saw this at the end of 2022, when Walt Disney World posted signs at Space Mountain: "Hand-held or loose articles, including cell phones and cameras are not permitted while riding. Items must be secured on the person, in a vehicle storage pouch, or left with a non-rider."

This rule was also carried over to other attractions, such as Magic Kingdom's newest attraction, Tron. Now, this rule is being enforced at Disneyland's Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway.

Signage is now added, reminding guests, "Put away all personal belongings." Cast Members now require that all loose articles be stowed away before giving the "all clear" for the ride to begin.

Reason for the change

Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is a fun attraction featuring the "trackless" ride technology. This is similar to the ride system such as Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios and Remy's Ratatouille Adventures over at EPCOT. Disney loves this type of technology; however, one "disturbance in the force" can affect the entire attraction.

We shared an experience aboard Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway where a guest dropped their phone, which caused the attraction to come to an abrupt halt. At this time, this only applies to Disneyland.

We hope this new change will help keep the magic and provide safety for all guests and Cast Members.

  1. I haven't been on any of the new attractions - with the exception of the avatar flight of passage. However, i believe this should be true of every ride. Leaving my phone with a non rider made it easier to be in the moment. Many theme parks in the maryland area dont allow loose articles on them.

  2. People are no longer being responsible for themselves so I am glad Disney is making them behave and be responsible. It’s about time!
