Disney Guests Left Disappointed with Early Tom Sawyer Island Closures

Guests hoping to enjoy Tom Sawyer Island one last time until its closure were left disappointed. Find out the reason for the current closures and what this may mean for your next trip to the Magic Kingdom.

Tom Sawyer Island Closing

Walt Disney World is making several BIG changes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with the Tropical Americas, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the new Monsters Inc. Land.

Magic Kingdom will also see several changes with the new Villains Land and the new Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park. Unfortunately, these new additions result in closures of current attractions.

Disney announced that the last day for Guests to experience Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Belle will be July 6th. These attractions will close forever on July 7th!

Tom Sawyer Closures

Typically, Disney fans swarm the parks when an attraction is set to close. Unfortunately, guests hoping to explore Tom Sawyer Island were left disappointed this weekend.

Guests visiting shared that Fort Longhorn and many of the caves were closed this weekend. Cast Members shared that due to bees and wasp swarms, these locations were closed until further notice.

This was no doubt disappointing for guests. These locations are some of the main reasons guests love to explore Tom Sawyer Island.

What you need to know

Perhaps even the insects hoped to enjoy Tom Sawyer one last time before it closed, but we are hopeful that all locations on this island will reopen soon. It is also important to note that heavy rains and thunderstorms often close select locations on the island, and at times, the entire island can be closed to guests.
